Mainstreaming of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy) systems of Medicine and revitalization of LHT (Local Health Traditions) is a major vision of NRHM. The AYUSH systems, especially Ayurveda and Homeopathy play an important role in the Health Care Delivery System in Kerala. There are over 1300 institutions in these systems of medicine. In the Health sector, there are separate directorates for Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homeopathy etc.
Key activities
1. Deploying Medical Officers to AYUSH dispensaries under LSGIs
Medical Officer & Medicines for these dispensaries are provided by NRHM whereas additional manpower, building, infrastructure and other facilities will be provided by the concerned LSGIs.
2. Strengthening of existing AYUSH infrastructure in the state
Upgradation of exclusive Ayurveda & Homoeo Hospitals and dispensaries are done with financial assistance under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for upgradation of hospitals & dispensaries and mainstreaming of AYUSH under NRHM.
3. Capacity building & Technical support
Induction & inservice trainings are given to all AYUSH Medical Officers posted by NRHM in the temporary dispensaries under LSGIs.
4. Programme Management & monitoring
The optimum utilisation of CSS funds from Dept. of AYUSH, GoI and Mission Flexi Pool funds from NRHM, Dept. of Health & Family Welfare, GoI are monitored.
5. Research & Planning
AYUSH Programme Implementation Plan is being designed annually with a roadmap and action plan for development. New initiatives in IEC, Research etc. are also planned.
